A Four-Stage Treatment Procedure for Keratoconus: ICRS Implantation, Corneal Cross-Linking, Toric Phakic Intraocular Lens Implantation and Topography-Guided Photorefractive Keratectomy

This scientific study evaluates the efficacy and safety of a four-stage combined treatment protocol applied in patients with progressive keratoconus. In the study, intrastromal corneal ring segment (ICRS) implantation, corneal cross-linking (CXL), toric phakic intraocular lens (IOL) implantation and topography-guided photorefractive keratectomy (TG-PRK) were performed sequentially.

The aim is to increase the biomechanical stability of the cornea, halt the progression of the disease and raise visual function to the highest possible level. The results show that this combined approach provides significant improvement both in corneal stabilisation and in visual acuity, refractive values and keratometric parameters.

The data obtained demonstrate that the four-stage treatment protocol is an effective and safe method that provides a functional increase in vision in keratoconus patients. Planned on an individual basis, this approach is regarded as an important alternative in modern keratoconus treatment.

This study scientifically supports the contribution of multidisciplinary and staged treatment strategies to clinical success in the advanced management of keratoconus.
