Changes in Ocular Biometry After Posterior Chamber Phakic Intraocular Lens Implantation
This study aims to evaluate the changes occurring in ocular biometry parameters after posterior chamber phakic intraocular lens (PCPIOL) implantation and their effect on intraocular lens (IOL) power calculations.
In patients who underwent EVO Visian ICL implantation for high myopia, biometric measurements taken before surgery and at least one year afterwards were compared. The measurements cover anterior chamber depth, axial length, keratometric values and the results of different IOL calculation formulas.
The results show a decrease in anterior chamber depth and a slight increase in axial length following PCPIOL implantation. Although the changes observed in keratometric values were statistically significant, they remained clinically limited. In intraocular lens power calculations, a minimal reduction of less than 0.50 dioptres was found across all formulas.
The findings indicate that measurable changes may occur in ocular biometry parameters after PCPIOL implantation, but that these changes do not adversely affect the reliability or clinical applicability of intraocular lens power calculations. In this respect, the study demonstrates that biometric assessment can be performed with confidence in phakic-lens eyes in which cataract surgery is planned at a later stage.
